One (poem/book#1)

Bloom

One

It’s been
A long time coming,
But it’s better to run late
Than to walk
Straight into danger.
Mic check. One.
One lone ranger.

All I need is
One.

One brave step,
One chance to say, I’m on my way.
One.
One pen –
One opportunity to write my wrongs.
One.
One hand –
One opportunity to right my wrongs.
One.

All I need is
One.

One voice –
To transform my bad habits.
That in whatever I am doing, I
Ought to diligently work at it.
One.

All I need is
One.

One message –
To remind me that
My spirit lives on
In my work.
One mentor –
To remind me that
I’m meant for more.
One.

All I need is
One.

One concerted voice,
One more person to say
That it’s okay
To have space,
One more dream that one day
I won’t need
To hide face.
One more time
For meaningless moments at a glance,

All I need is
One.

One more breath
To speak my mind.
The people
Are awake.
The People
Have a say.
One safe dollar in my pocket,
No more crabs in the bucket.
NONE!

Mic check. One.

One more smile
To reach my ears,
One mile
In my shoes,
One more string
For my blues,
One map
With a clue,
One more bulb
For my brain,
One highlight
For the day.

All I need is
One.

When my best strengths fold,
One.
One sound advice to remind me
That my story is still
Un-fol-DING.

One kind word.
One positive affirmation daily.
All I need is
One.

Mic check. One.

One more second
When the music… stops. (Long Pause)

One.

One hand raised
One lost student dazed
Head on the desk
High fructose in the veins
One crash due to maize
“Can’t sit still”
Vegetables sugar crazed
One dead end through the maze
One teen on the block
One future gone ablaze
Resistance in the blood
Tough skin getting grazed
One mother getting robbed
Ten years on the job
Here’s a quarter for a raise
Be thankful for your pay
Clap your hands
And give ‘em praise.

One.

All I need is
One.

One mic
To speak the truth.

One.

A broken jewel on display,

I am

One.

Thoughts of the week: Speak your heart. You are courageous.
